Good thinking by Ellis, O Dreary will do what he has done to leeds to your club.

He is a useluss manager and is much worser when he has money.

I really think villa have some of the best talent around, i know this as i have a few friends who are villa fans saying the talent is fantastic, i really think they should be picked more often.

If you can sell Vassell off for 5m then that should be enough for the summer.

i think o'leary is a decent manager. hes done wonders with the squad since he took over after turnip boy decimated us last year. wev got some great youth players. wer in the final of the youth fa cup again (which we won last year) and our reserves are top of the league, so the futures lookin good. but, they arent ready for complete first team action just yet. we need to slowly blend them into the team. look at whittingham. excellent talent but got burned out half way through the season cos hes so young... we need to invest in some players for the backbone of the team and slowly blend in the excellent youth players we hav. id rather we keep vassell. when wev got some decent service, and better players around him, i think hel come good. id rather sell angel to be honest. hes nearly 29 and we could cash in on him and use the money to strengthen the squad..... that is unless we get taken over and someone invests some decent cash in us....... which im prayin is gonna happen......

::wow:: Bollocks.

DO'L is a GOOD manager. Not outstanding, but certainly not "useless." Had two of ours not decided to go out and get shit-face lashed, kick the shit out of some student, lie about it in a court of law (twice!), then I very much doubt we'd be in the position we're in now IMO. His subsequent book were suicide - he 'lost' 3 key members of the dressing room (who will remain nameless) despite his assurances that he didn't, and LUFC as we knew it started imploding from the inside out. The rest is history.

He demonstrated incredible insensitivity and poor judgement to all parties involved but that aside it has NOTHING at all to do with his qualities as a manager on the field. He'll have learnt from everything that happened with us though - you've all heard the "I'm just a young manager learning his trade" rhetoric. Such lessons learned can only serve to benefit Villa in the long term. If the Villa players hold him in the same esteem as ours did pre-that book, then they'll think of him very highly indeed.

He's also responsible for nurturing and blooding the likes of Woody, Smith, and Kewell where the old-regime that had gone before him didn't dare.

Villa, who have spent peanuts, are only 4 points behind the barcodes, who have spent an absolute fortune. Go figure!

Generally clubs have to spend a fortune these days to compete for honours and put themselves in contention for the CL, etc. The barcodes are one example and I doubt they'll get it this season. The fact that DO'L has Villa where they are now is all the more applaudable and worthy of serious recognition and praise.

Sometimes, when clubs spend vast amounts of money, the gamble doesn't pay off for whatever reasons. When this does happen, it's absolutely ludacris to label the manager "useless" - there are far too many on/off-field factors that dictate both success and failure in football for anyone to lay blame or accusation at the door of the manager.

Despite that damn book, despite all that spending, and despite the state we're in now, I actually STILL have a lot of time for the guy. He's one of the best managers in English football today and he'll only get better.

You simply can't castigate him for what happened at Leeds. During his reign, there were a self-destruction culture rife from board level to playing staff (and unfortunately for us a lot of those players are still with us and will be for some time yet) and no manager would have come out of that smelling of roses.

Apologies for high-jacking your Ellis-bashing thread, Andy ::blush:: - but those kind of flippant remarks piss me right off and get me on my soap-box.

It'll take a bit of time but he'll be busting his balls to get them out at the first available opportunity. He's one of those mangers who would prefer to blood a youngster than get some jonny foreigner on loan. How it should be IMO. One of the reasons why I don't like Wenger as a manger although I do begrudgingly respect him. ::

Seeing as you have no money until the odd twat dies, do you have any youth teamers who are ready to make the transition? Next term would be perfect timing for them if they're ready.

That's alot of names there! Looks good for the future then. Probably best to have most of them on bench as last 20 min subs or give some of them the odd start and introduce them gradually so they don't get burnt out so young.

I guess it's all dependent on the club's choices really. Had we had more options I doubt we'd have seen as much of Milner, Lennon, Killa, et al as we have in recent times. Best to keep them 'protected' until they're fully ready to make the transition.

yea, not all of those will make it but thats just some of the players who are doin good things in the reserves and in the youth cup....... i hope we dont do wot we had to do with whittingham and just throw em in at the deep end and burn them out.... hes not been the player we first saw at the beginning of the season for a long time...... but o'leary aint stupid, i think hel protect them as much as he can.......

Spot on. Exactly what he did with Woody, Kewell and Smith and they're doing alright me thinks. Have trust in him - he knows what he's doing in that department.
