Gunners linked with Briand

Quote:
Arsenal are interested in Rennes starlet Jimmy Briand, according to reports in France.

The 21-year-old did not start the season as a regular at Rennes, but has become a key player in the last few months.

Manager Pierre Dreossi recently claimed Briand had taken his game to another level, and will meet with the player at the end of the season to discuss his future.

Briand is contracted to the club until 2009 but is believed to be keen to discuss his option.

L'Equipe has reported that Arsenal are keeping tabs on his progress, and have sent scouts to watch him in action.

St Etienne and Lens have also been linked with Briand, and France Under 21 coach Rene Girard can understand why he is attracting so much attention.

"I have been convinced since his first match against Sweden," said Girard.

"Jimmy is an absolute professional. He has an exceptionally rare quality for a forward.

"With some forwards, if they are having a bad day, you almost play down to ten.

"When it doesn't work well for him, he does his best to make it work for the other players."

Default Adebayor nets new deal

Quote:
Emmanuel Adebayor has been rewarded for a series of promising displays with a new 'long-term' deal at Arsenal.

The Togo international has quickly adapted to the physical demands of the Premiership and in making 44 appearances in the season just passed, has established himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's first team.

Adebayor arrived in North London in the 2006 January transfer window and in total has made 57 appearances, scoring 16 goals.

Wenger has been quick to tie down several of his promising youngsters to long-term deals, with Adebayor's contract having come quick on the heels of Emmanuel Eboue inking a similar commitment.

Arsenal have decided against disclosing the length of Adebayor's new contract.

Arsenal to make decision on Mexican wonderkid

Quote:
Arsenal's Mexican wonderkid Carlos Vela faces an uncertain future at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger will decide at the end of the Spanish season whether he will join Arsenal this summer.

The 18-year-old, who was signed for £2.5million in November 2005 but was not eligible to play in England due to work permit restrictions, is currently on loan at Spanish Second Division side Salamanca.

By next January, the teenager will have spent the two years in Spain necessary to qualify for an EU passport but Arsenal have successfully applied to the Home Office to bring forward Vela's arrival date.

Wenger must now decide whether Vela should spend another year on loan in Spain or move to Emirates permanently in July.

The indications are that the Arsenal manager wants the striker, who has scored eight goals in 26 games for Salamanca this season, to provide competition up front.

Wenger, who has been in Spain this week to speak to representatives of Julio Baptista, Jose Reyes, Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal youngster Fran Merida, has compared Vela to Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez.

"He's top class," said the Arsenal boss. "I like his intelligence and his pace. He scores goals but he can also create them.

"He's a special talent and I believe 100 per cent that he will make it at the highest level."

According to reports in Spain, Wenger has held talks with Atletico Madrid about off-loading Reyes.

Real are not interested in signing Reyes on a permanent deal and the forward's options are diminishing because his former club Seville have also said they are not interested in him.

Default Striker Baptista to leave Arsenal

Quote:
Arsenal have decided against turning forward Julio Baptista's loan deal from Real Madrid into a permanent transfer.
The 25-year-old Brazilian scored 10 goals in 35 appearances but found the net only three times in 24 Premiership appearances in his season at Arsenal.
"Arsenal have told me they are not able to buy me and so all I can do is return to Real Madrid," Baptista told Spanish newspaper Marca.
Baptista joined Arsenal, with Jose Antonio Reyes moving the other way.

The Spanish season has not yet finished and no decision has been made on Reyes' future.
Baptista, who scored four goals in Arsenal's 6-3 Carling Cup win against Liverpool at Anfield in January, added: "I have enjoyed my season with Arsenal and in England.
"I adapted well. I didn't play much at first but finished much better. The first year is very difficult.
"The English league is very strong and very competitive with great teams. Manchester United and Chelsea are very strong and it is difficult to compete against their great squads." Baptista joined Real from Sevilla for an initial fee of £13.8m in July 2005.

I know he didn't play
that well but it was his first season it has taken better players than him a longer time to adapt to the premiership. TBH I thought Arsenal would have give him a second chance.

Oh well

Arsenal may be on the brink of selling midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Real Madrid. (Daily Star)

Rumours are growing but imo like he's said, his future depends on Wenger's.

tribalfooball.com - May 24, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made a cash plus player offer to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday for striker Fernando Torres.
AS says Wenger asked about Torres' availability and offered Aleksandr Hleb and Freddie Ljungberg in part-exchange for the Atletico captain.

Atletico chiefs Miguel Angel Gil and Jesus Garcia Pitarch turned down the proposal, but left the door open by expressing interest in Manu Adebayor and Tomas Rosicky.

Atletico Madrid have held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger about several of his players.

Gil Marin also asked Wenger about the possibility of taking Nicklas Bendtner or Theo Walcott on-loan next season.

Atletico Madrid haggle over Reyes fee with Arsenal's Wenger
tribalfooball.com - May 24, 2007

Atletico Madrid are attempting to seal a deal for Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and the club's main representative in Spain, Francisco Cagigao, met with Atletico chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin and sports director Jesus Garcia Pitarch on Tuesday night to thrash out terms over a deal for Reyes.

The group met again yesterday morning, says AS and talks progressed with Atletico insisting they won't go higher than £8 million for Reyes, while the Gunners are seeking closer to £12 million.

Sevilla, Reyes' former club, are waiting in the wings and haven't ruled out moving for the on-loan Real Madrid attacker.

Arsenal boss Wenger discussed Cesc with Real Madrid
tribalfooball.com - May 24, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger discussed Cesc Fabregas' situation with Real Madrid sports director Pedja Mijatovic on Tuesday, it has been revealed.

AS says Wenger also spoke with Mijatovic about the futures of Jose Reyes and Julio Baptista, who are both set to leave the Gunners this summer.

It's reported that Cesc, despite signing a long-term deal with Arsenal earlier this season, has told Wenger he is considering continuing his career back home in Spain. The meeting on Tuesday progressed positively and the pair are scheduled to meet again in the near future.

Wenger rejects Madrid rumours

Quote:
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rejected reports suggesting he and Cesc Fabregas could be leaving the club.

Reports emanating from Spain have suggested Fabregas could move to Real Madrid this summer and that Wenger could also make the switch to El Santiago Bernabeu.

Wenger made a visit to Spain fuelling speculation that he was in the country to meet Madrid and discuss his own and Fabregas' future.

However, the Frenchman insists he was in Spain to meet with Atletico Madrid regarding Jose Antonio Reyes and that both himself and Fabregas will be staying at Emirates Stadium.

"I met with the directors of Atletico Madrid, nothing else," Wenger told Marca

"Cesc is going to spend the next year with Arsenal."

Wenger also moved to rubbish suggestions that he offered himself to Madrid following the recent departure of David Dein at Arsenal.

"I have not offered myself to Real Madrid. I am going to continue at Arsenal."
