The Jose Antonio Reyes transfer saga has taken a new twist with sources in Spain claiming that Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign the Arsenal wide man.
Reyes has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid and has not featured in any of Arsenal's competitive games thus far this season.
Real have made no secret of their intent to land the 22-year-old, but have thus far failed to reach agreement with Arsenal over a fee.
Reyes himself has been making contradicting noises in the press, with a recent article in which he expressed his desire to join Real quickly followed by a denial.
It seems Arsenal are willing to allow the homesick Spaniard to return to La Liga, but are holding out to ensure they do not lose money on the man they bought from Sevilla in January 2004.
Real were understood to have offered around €12 million (£8 million), but that falls some way short of Arsenal's valuation.
However, Spanish television station Antena 3 claims Atletico have now entered the picture and are ready to push the boat out to land the Spain international.
Atletico have already spent big this summer as they look to re-establish themselves amongst the top teams in La Liga and have reportedly despatched officials to London to open negotiations with Arsenal representatives.
The news could well see Real step up their bid to land the left-sided star who has failed to truly settle in England after an eye-catching start to life at Highbury.
