Default Star set for £16million exit?

http://217.158.112.238/vsite/vconten...s-item,00.html

Quote:
Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole reportedly has a buy-out clause in his contract which would allow him to quit the Gunners for £16million.

The England international has long-been linked with a switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid, and clubcall understands that Cole is still a top target for the club's president Fernando Martin.

Real are keen to sign a long-term replacement for Brazilian veteran Roberto Carlos, who has been widely tipped to move to Qatar in the summer.

If the reports regarding the player's contract are true, a bid of £16million could activate the clause and allow Real to negotiate directly with Cole.

Arsenal are keen to agree a new contract with Cole, possibly to remove such a clause, but there has been no confirmation or denial from the club that such a caveat exists within the player's current deal.

Ashley Cole had been the perfect repalcer for Roberto Carlos.

Hmmm...but Chelsea already have Del Horno and Gallas who can play anywhere along the back...but afterall this is Chelsea, they spend heaps of money on players they don't necessarily need

...Ashley COle will fit perfectly in Real Madrids game...they need two wing backs who can defend and attack and Ashley Cole is the man for the job.

16 mil? that has to be some kind of joke! How irresponsible of Arsenal to put such a low buy out clause on a player like Ashley Cole!!!!!

I have a feeling that Cole will leave Arsenal in the summer. You have Clichy, and Flamini has filled in brilliantly. £16m - £20m would be great business for a left back.

1) Del Horno is a quality player
2) If Chelsea have already signed Cole then they'll be getting a nice 10 point deduction for next season
3) In Flamini, Arsenal have found Cole's replacement.

No, because Riise is a better player than him, but if Riise ever left, Del Horno would be on the shortlist of players i'd want to replace him.
