Milan Bid For Banega Rejected

AC Milan have had a €14m bid for Boca Juniors starlet Ever Banega rejected, according to the Argentine club’s chairman.


The 19-year-old is rated as one of Argentina’s most promising young midfielders and he was a star at his country’s successful FIFA Under-20 World cup campaign in Canada during the summer.

Banega only made his professional debut for Boca in February of this year, but such was his impact that he was given a standing ovation by La Bombonera crowd in one of his first games for the club.

“Milan have offered €14m for Ever Banega but we want twice as much as this,” said Boca chairman Mauricio Macri.

Banega should come face to face with his admirers next month when both Milan and Boca Juniors contest the FIFA World Club Cup Championship.

The European Champions and Copa Libertadores winners are favourites to make it to the final that will be held in Japan.

Last year’s winner of the prestigious tournament was Internacional of Brazil, who defeated Barcelona 1-0 in the International Stadium in Yokohama.

I'm sure all the teams who are looking to bring players from south america will have an eye on banega, who IMO will become one of the best midfielders in the world in short time.

I don't think macri realy means he wants double of the money milan offered... banega will go for 22-26m IMO.

Talented Boca Juniors midfielder Ever Banega is on the verge of joining Juventus in a deal worth over 15 million euros.

Banega will arrive in Turin in early January if his club Boca Juniors accept an offer of more than 15 million euros made by Juventus for the youngster.

"Banega will leave Boca in January because the offer made by Juventus is excellent," affirmed an unidentified Boca source.

"As well as this, Carlos Ischia, Boca's new coach, won't get in the way of any possible departure, after advice from Carlos Bianchi," he added.

When the deal in finalised, Boca will recover the large sum of money they invested in Juan Roman Riquelme, who returned to the club from Villarreal.

Banega, who became one of Boca's key players last season is a highly rated midfielder - solid defensively but with also possessing great passing skills - who is likely to take Italian football by storm.

Many have compared the youngster to AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, but insist that he is faster, smarter, and has a much higher level of technique.

So it was no surprise that Milan have also been after his signature, but seem to have already lost the race to bitter rivals Juventus.

I really do not want him to come to Juve. I havent seen him play its just I am confident that we do not need to buy any more players at the moment. Except for Van Der Vaart of course.

Zanetti is 1 of Juve's most consistent player's. I wouldn't replace him with any1. Also, he has been playing in serie a for a long time, and has much more footballing experience in general. If Banega pushed any1 out of the starting 11, it would Nocerino, and even that is a longshot.

I cant remember the last time Juve was willing to spend that much on a player his age. I think its bullshit, especially when u consider a player like Banega is not a priority, and if it was, Juve could save 15 million euro's and bring back Marchisio from loan.

Valencia have reached a verbal agreement with Boca Juniors to sign Éver Banega for around €18m and will off-load Manuel Fernandes to fund the deal, according to a report in Spain.

Benega is a rising star in Argentina and has been targetted by the Spanish club's sporting director, Miguel Ángel Ruiz, to slot in the team's midfield, according to AS.

The player's agent has also confirmed that negotiations have now reached a criticial stage and that a written agreement is now being mapped out.

Ángel Ruiz, along with the finance director, Miguel Gonzálvez, are working on a deal that will see Banega, who does not hold a European passport, put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal.

Koeman has given the green light to the operation and is expected to show the Argentina Under-20 starlet around the club when he arrives in Spain on January 3.

Banega, who has been linked recently with Juventus, was one of the stars of the Argentinian side that won the FIFA under-20 World Cup in Canada and was also part of the Boca Juniors set-up that lifted the Copa Libertadores.

Boca Juniors have asked for more time to consider Valencia's offer for Éver Banega as Real Madrid have first refusal on the highly-rated young midfielder.


Los Ché were reported to be front-runners in the race to sign the 19-year-old after making an €18m offer, but they did not bank on Madrid's involvement.

According to AS, Los Merengues' president Ramón Calderón bought the first refusal rights to three Boca players for €1m as part of the deal that saw Fernando Gago move to the club.

Banega was one of that trio and now Madrid must consider whether or not they want to snatch the player from under the nose of Ronald Koeman.

In order to take up their option, the Bernabéu outfit must match Valencia's offer or pass up the chance to sign him and give the green light for him to go elsewhere.

While Banega is currently on holiday, the situation remains difficult as Boca have also received several offers that are said to be around €15m.

The report suggests that along with Juventus' bid, Chelsea and Atlético de Madrid have also made their interest known.

What kind of player is Banega?

Is he a creative CM like Xavi or Lucho or more of a dogged DM or an out and out AM like Riquelme?

Just thinking from Valencia's point of view if they need him.

sometimes I think he's gago because of the look and the places on the field where he plays.. but banega has much more pace and aggression, I see him more solid defensively but this may be because gago is in la liga and banega in boca ^^ and in attack banega is more creative (even though gago was amazing in boca too), and banega likes to do many tricks with the ball (rabonas, stepovers, ...).
he can be used a dm in la liga (in a 2 dm formation...) but he's better as cm. the type of lucho yes. not AM like riquelme but could do well in deco/xavi place in barcelona...
koemann might use him in his 4-3-3, or in a 4-4-2 with baraja in the center... both options are perfect.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Punto Radio, Éver Banega has confirmed that he is interested in a move to Valencia in January.


Valencia were confirmed to have verbally agreed an €18million fee with Boca Juniors for Banega on Sunday, but doubt was cast over the move when it emerged that Real Madrid hold first refusal on the young midfielder, as part of the deal that took Fernando Gago to the Bernabéu.

However, Banega himself seems unperturbed by this development and is keen to move to Ronald Koeman's side as soon as possible.

"It would be a great opportunity and a challenge," Banega told Radio Punto.

"Valencia are a great team that I like. So far I am happy at Boca, but if something plausible for me and the club arrives, then I shall go."

He also spoke of the previous interest of Atletico Madrid in securing his signature.

"I want to play in a great team over there [Spain]. Atletico Madrid were interested in the beginning, and I like them but did not feel compelled to move. Soon Valencia appeared, and the sound of that interests me just a little bit more."

Banega was unaware of the current stage of negotiations between Boca, Valencia and Real Madrid, stating that his agent was dealing with this. He did say that he hopes there is progress over the next few days, as he is keen to sort out his future as soon as possible.

"Hopefully I will soon be in Spain, but so far I do not wish to confirm things that are not complete."
