Messi can not be compared to Maradona, he will never be Maradona. It is silly to say this........Messi has done very little, he is still feeding on a repuation that is still non exsistent. When he takes over Barca and competes for important trophies, then we can make comparison at the end of his career.

To do SO NOW. Is a great insult to the greatest player to ever play the game.

You're wrong !!
Messi will be better than Maradona !! just wait and see !!

messi is just 20 years and 17 days old. yet, he has so many personal awards more than 60% of the players in the world!!
most of the people in the world consider messi as one of the best 4 players in the world atm! (ronaldinho, kaka, c.ronaldo & messi... the order is arguable) when the other 3 players competing him, weren't serious at his age.
he is the youngest player to score in the history of la liga!!
it is absolutely not silly to compare messi to maradona. though, it is silly to be ignorant to the facts and opinions and thoughts and goals and dribbles etc!

I don't know what is your problem: or that you know nothing about messi(I don't think so), or you're afraid someone will get close to maradona and maybe be better than him... if it's the second, then I'd tell you that if you realy admire maradona, then you'd be glad to see messi reaches the top of the world being an argentinian and maradona's friend

messi is on barca's newspaper's front page

and here are some today's news about messi:
Messi vibra con el Barça 2008 - SPORT - Barça
messi says again that he wants to stay in barca for a long time.
and it seems that he confirms, he is staying at least until 2008 (hey jager, does that say he's gonna play for inter at 2009 ? ).

Messi, la mejor estrella - SPORT - Barça
veron: "messi es un maradona en chiquito" [messi is a young/small/little(chiquito, doesn't mean: less abilities ) maradona]

Great goal. To be playing at full tilt and then have the ability to put such a delicate touch on the ball, let alone recognize the opportunity for such a play (mental awareness), is tremendous and just an absolute pleasure to watch.

Love his celebration also! Some real fancy hand-work to go with the foot-work!

Keep it up Lionel and you will be remembered as one of the best to ever lace 'em up.

as I saw the goal I remembered this one-
YouTube - maradona - El Grandote la vio desde abajo
enjoy the video... a good one. a bit long but very cool(especially if you can understand spanish.. if not, just wait till the end of it and watch the goal).

close right?

Thanks for that Maradona video Lionel.

It's hard to say which one is better I think as Maradona ran from just inside his own half but only passed one player and then did the lob but with Messi's the keeper was hardly off his line and he hit it so delicately.

Both great goals and a good spot to notice the comparison.

np

I don't know wich one was better.. maradona's goal is better because he made everything by his self... dribbled and scored.
but messi's chip shot was more beatiful... and the spot from where he shot was a spot where great goals get scored ... the chip was much more difficult and accurate.

and here, (surprisingly), messi's goal is the more important one

here is what basile thinks about the goal. and half a sentence about messi-maradona comparison:
Quote:
Basile Hails Messi's Wonder Goal, Draws Maradona Comparison
Argentina coach Alfio Basile felt lavished Lionel Messi's goal agaisnt Mexico as pure "genius".

It was an incorrigibly deft chip over Oswaldo Sanchez on the hour mark that created a goal out of nothing, leaving fans and the media singing praises of the diminutive Argentine.

"Only a genius could do this," gushed Basile over Messi's effort. "It was unbelievable."

Asked about the comparisons with Diego Maradona, he said: "He is going in that direction, yes.

"I have had the pleaure of training both of them, and both of them can do what common players cannot."

Basile called for caution, though.

"However, to compare Maradona with a boy who is just starting out is not fair," he warned. "Messi is a very intelligent player, and he needs to be given the freedom to do what he does best.

"He knows how to run into areas where he can be dangerous."
look at the sentences in bold...
good words basile!

messi on barca's newspaper's homepage again: (because of the goal)

other little news about messi, from today:
Se rinden a Messi, la pulga atómica - SPORT - Barça
good words about messi from several people.
and they remind us that: messi is on the way to winning the copa america, wich maradona never won!
Milito: "Ahora disfrutaré cada día con Messi" - SPORT - Barça
milito is happy with messi, and is glad he'll be always near him after moving to barca.
(messi is a nice guy also )

look at that:

messi:"I haven't won the copa yet and they already compare me with you"
maradona:"then how when one day you'll win the WC. prepare yourself"(can anyone give a better translation? )

the argentinian commentator, in messi's goal:
"a masterpieces of leo messi, the best goal of the copa. his mother suffered hard to give him birth. we must walk to rosario(messi's hometown) and kiss thankfully the stomach of the mother 'celia', the mother of this creator. oh god!"
