Rene Lima, the DM who was basically a sub in the last years - after he was expected to be the next argentinian DM and after playing for the young NT, he had a rough injury which made his career go another way... Lima moved to the Israeli 'giants' Maccabi Haifa, some sources say it is a loan until next season with 250'00 $ fee, but the more trusted soources claim that maccabi haifa paid 1 million $ to get him for 2.5 years.

Default Preseason Tournament Champions

Quote:
River Plate defeated San Lorenzo 1-0 with a second half penalty from Sebastian Abreu, and they clinched the preseason championship, that was played between Argentina's five "big clubs."

River Plate, who lost 2-0 against bitter rivals Boca Juniors, needed a victory to win the title, and they did exactly this, thanks to a nicely executed spot-kick from new Uruguayan signing Sebastian Abreu.

Diego Simeone's side dominated proceedings at the Estadio Jose Maria Minella, and were well worth their narrow, but hard-worked victory.

San Lorenzo created more danger than their rivals early on in the match, and could have gone ahead through a powerful Daniel Bilos header, that was saved by Juan Pablo Carrizo in the River goal.

River, on the other hand, didn't look dangerous, and pretty much only pumped long balls towards lanky 1.93 metre striker Abreu, who seemed to be off touch.

After the break the match livened up, and seven minutes into the half, River were awarded a penalty, after Alexis Sanchez was impeded in the area

Abreu stepped up to the spot, and fired the ball past Agustin Orion, in the San Lorenzo goal.

Less than 15 minutes later River were awarded another penalty, and this time regular taker Paulo Ferrari stepped up to the spot, but his penalty was saved.

River continued to press, and created a number of opportunities to put the result out of San Lorenzo's reach, but they failed to capitalize.

Simeone's side won the title, after having picked up seven points, from four matches.

congrats...

Default Clausura 2008 MD1

Clausura 2008 MD1... FT: River Plate 2 | 0 Gimnasia De Jujuy

Abelairas and Ferrari scored the goals.

river played with a very attacking 4-2-4 with 3 strikers and ortega behind them. while gimnasia - the most defensive team in the league - were playing 4-5-1.
the big hype of these days... El Chileno - Alexis Sanchez was amazing, I heard alot about him and it was the first time I watch him. the new cristiano ronaldo.

good start to the season. simeone's ways are working.

the goals:

Clausura MD16:: River Plate 1 - 0 Huracan

a massive second half, especially after el burrito went in! a beatiful goal of Bounanoutte got them the win and the 3 points.

River Plate sit in the first place at least until Estudiantes play today against Independiente.

MD17:: Colon 1-2 River Plate
River got 3 points in a very uneasy match while estudiantes couldn't beat huracan... so River are #1 now.

2 games to go! if River can get 6 points they are the clausura champions. in case they draw in one of the matches and estudiantes win in both, they end up with the same number of points.....

MD18: River - Olimpo :- Olimpo need to win this match for not being in relegation danger, but I don't think they can.
MD19: Banfield - River :- Banfield don't have much to play for, but it won't be easy.
