I'd rather McBride was with Blackburn.

Frank -- are you keeping warm? You've got what we had out in the midwest -- only worse.

1. BANKING ON BRIAN: Blackburn manager Graeme Souness has two more weeks to reshape his team and perhaps save his job. His attempted acquisition of Crew forward Brian McBride was mired in boardroom bickering.

Chief executive John Williams told England-based agent Paul Stretford to seal the deal by Friday. The Blackburn board reportedly authorized only 600,000 pounds ($1 million) to acquire McBride on a transfer and with Crew coach Greg Andrulis and general manager Jim Smith in Charlotte for the MLS SuperDraft, much of their planning hinged on whether the deal would go through.

The Blackburn board balked at paying much for a player who will be 32 this year and with relegation looming.

Souness wanted to get McBride on a transfer all along, but the board was split on seeking a loan or a transfer. The on-again, off-again deal fizzled weeks ago when MLS officials acceded to McBride's wishes and rejected a loan, but a season-ending injury to midfielder Barry Ferguson, who cost Blackburn 7.5 million pounds ($12 million) last summer, and Blackburn's poor results prompted Souness to approach the board again.

Souness spent about $22 million on offseason purchases, but the club, which finished seventh in the Premier League last season, has been knocked out of the FA Cup by rival Birmingham and is fighting relegation. It still has an $11 million transfer surplus from the sales of players like Damian Duff, yet with relegation looming Souness isn't being provided generous resources.

Fulham have joined the chase for Blackburn Rovers target Brian McBride after beginning talks with the USA international.
Chris Coleman is looking to increase his firepower with unsettled Louis Saha seemingly pushing for a big-money move to Manchester United, and tall target man McBride has caught his attention.

Rovers have led a lengthy pursuit of the American, who was a success during a previous loan stint in England with Everton.

Graeme Souness initially called off his chase due to transfer wranglings with MLS, who own the Columbus Crew attacker's contract. However, Rovers revived their attempts to bring the player to Ewood Park, and had looked set to announce his capture.

Fulham have entered the bidding at a dramatic late stage and could yet usurp Blackburn with an offer of their own for McBride.

It would appear as though the final choice on his destination will be left to the 31-year-old.

US international striker Brian McBride is set to make his debut for Blackburn when they face Chelsea, stated Rovers manager Graeme Souness.
Rovers, who are in the process of finalising McBride's Work Permit, are paying MLS around 600,000 pounds for the Columbus Crew striker.

McBride had been tipped to move to Ewood Park to provide a different alternative for Souness, and he noted that he's has heard nothing about Fulham's reported interest in hijacking the deal, insisting that Rovers chief executive John Williams has nearly completed the finalisation of McBride's entry into the Rovers squad.

"Our chief executive has been speaking to people and more or less tied things up," insisted Souness.

"Saturday is out of the question as there is his work permit application and things to sort out, but the Chelsea game is more like it.

"We're short in that department because Matt Jansen has not returned and done anything as much as we'd hoped which is a blow to us and him.

"We felt McBride was different type of striker to what we have."

Still not on the MLS web site, but Rovers site says McBride will be there next week. ESPN also has an article saying McBride is moving to Blackburn.
