Blackburn's poor form and worrying position in the Premiership has persuaded Rovers to change their mind and pay a fee but as a result McBride is likely to be the only new face at Ewood Park this month unless Dino Baggio agrees to a loan move to Ancona.

Striker to join EPL club next week

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey -- Striker Brian McBride of the Columbus Crew will be sold to the Blackburn Rovers of the English Premier League for $2 million, SportsTicker has learned.

The move will reunite McBride with fellow American goalkeeper Brad Friedel. The two played together in Columbus.

According to a document obtained from the newly formed MLS players' union, McBride, who is under contract through 2005, is owed $341,250 this year by MLS. An MLS source said McBride's salary will balloon to an estimated $1.5 million annually.

McBride, 31, was on loan last season to Premiership club Everton, where he scored four goals and had two assists in a six-match span before returning to the United States.

McBride will join Blackburn, which currently is in 16th place in the Premier League, next week.

Last year, MLS sold goalkeeper Tim Howard to Manchester United for an estimated $4 million.

According to Sky, Fulham have made a 24th hour bid for Brian McBride before the Blackburn deal has goen through. Chris Coleman wants him as cover since Saha appears to be going. I think we have a bidding war now for McBride.
