3. U.S. ABROAD: Spector injured in nasty collision

Jonathan Spector, whose recent run with English Premier League club Charlton made him a strong candidate to make the U.S. World Cup squad, suffered a dislocated shoulder Monday in Charlton's 2-1 win over Portsmouth.
Spector, who had started the last four Charlton games, was injured in a nasty collison with Zimbabwean Benjani Mwaruwari late in the first half.
Before the injury, Spector, who has started at right back and left back in recent weeks, looked like he might make the U.S. World Cup squad as its youngest player at the age of 20. He should know shortly whether he'll have to rule out any chance of making the USA 23.
It was not a good day for World Cup hopefuls at the Valley. Charlton's England candidate, Marcus Bent, had to go off with a hamstring injury.
-- Oguchi Onyewu was in the starting lineup as Standard Liege edged Brussels, 1-0, to remain in first place in Belgium’s Juliper League by one point ahead of Anderlecht with two games to play.
-- On the final day of the Dutch Eredivisie regular season, Michael Bradley debuted for Heerenveen, starting and playing all 90 minutes in a 4-2 loss at AZ.
-- Former Wake Forest standout Jeremiah White scored his second goal for French Second Division club Gueugnon this season when he scored in the 2-0 win over Bastia.

Default Spector's World Cup dashed

Spector’s hopes dashed

Jonathan Spector, whose strong spring with English Premier League club Charlton made him a contender for a spot on the U.S. World Cup team, has been ruled out for Germany ’06 after suffering a dislocated shoulder in action with Charlton on April 17.
Spector returned to Manchester United for an operation on the shoulder he dislocated in the 2-1 win over Portsmouth. Spector, who just turned 20, would have been the youngest member of the U.S. World Cup team if he had made the squad.
He was playing on loan from Manchester United. He made 20 EPL appearances for Charlton in 2005-06 after playing three times for United in his first year with the first team in 2004-05.

A blow imo....I think he would have been good enough to have made an impact and at the very least would have been a superb rotation option.

Yep I think he would have been a viable LB if we wanted someone a bit more defensive than Eddie Lewis

So who's going to be the fourth full back on the team after Cherundolo. Lewis and Hejduk? I'm hoping it's Dunivant and not Albright, are there any other options?

Nice Spector and West Ham avoid relegation by beating Manchester United for the second time this year. 1-0 the final.

Yeah he did! He went right up Cristiano Ronaldo and effectively shut down the best player in the world. Not many people can say they outplayed Ronaldo...Spector can.

Spector is great defender...he not only held his own against C. Ronaldo last year, but he practically shut him down. The guy has great skills and I hope he can get a starting spot on the 2010 team.
