New midfielder for Hertha


Hertha BSC unveiled their fifth new signing for the upcoming season on Friday. His name is Cicero, and he's Brazilian.

The 23-year-old comes from Fluminense Rio de Janeiro on a two-year loan deal. "It's a pleasure to be here in Berlin. Hertha are a great club", he says.

Cicero Santos is a genuine all-rounder, who has played in a number of positions in the course of his career to date. Like his new coach Lucien Favre, however, he sees himself primarily as a defensive midfielder.

"Challenge for trophies"

"He's a polyvalent player. We're glad to have got him on our books" Favre said. An equally pleased Hertha sporting director Dieter Hoeneß described Cicero as being "full of beans".

The Brazilian newcomer, who recently netted three goals in 14 games in the Copa Libertadores, says he wants to "stay in with a shout in all competitions for as long as possible and be challenging for trophies".

Completed first training

He got a first impression of his new teammates in Thursday's UEFA Cup romp against Nistru Otaci, and is clearly keen to find his feet in Berlin and, as he put it, get acquainted with the philosophy. To that end, he completed his first training session with the squad on Friday morning.
