This is just a guess, but maybe Ronaldo just couldn't wait? Probably because of the "train only passes once" advice from Scolari or whatever.

Ronaldo should have taken a hint from the way Pique handled his transfer. Granted, Pique is nowhere near as big a star as Ronaldo, but he basically went to SAF, and asked for a transfer - preferably to Barcelona because that was his dream. Well I think that's the main point. Ferguson would be more understanding towards a player that was pretty much expendable than to his most prized asset.
