The way I see it, it's pretty poor to come out and make a big fuss in the media, but I think that's the only way he's going to get a transfer. Manchester United are pretty adamant about keeping Ronaldo, and it's not as if he has a year left on his contract like Lampard. The only way Ronaldo and Madrid can push this transfer through is if they go to the media with statements that put pressure on United to let him go.
To be honest, I think if he really wants to get this thing done, pissing off his club is the best way to do it. Make the situation deteriorate to the point where he has no future there.
As for making himself look like a twat, most people already knew he was one before this.
