Ujfalusi: Atlético Chance Too Good To Miss

Tomas Ujfalusi has admitted that he jumped at the chance to join Atlético de Madrid once he heard of their interest and believes that he can help the club to glory.

The 30-year-old Czech Republic international opted to move to Spain when deciding to leave Fiorentina at the end of last season and is relishing his new challenge.

Atlético are back in the Champions League and Ujfalusi believes that it was too good an opportunity to miss out given the size and popularity of the club.

"I am very happy to have come to a great club like Atlético de Madrid, who are building a great team. They are one of the best known teams in Spain and Europe, with great players and I expect to win trophies here," he told reporters.

"When a player has the possibility to choose, he will choose the best. I had offers from several other teams, but when my agent told me about Atlético's interest I told him immediately that I liked the idea.

"I have played in German and Italian football and I wanted to have a different experience by playing in Spain.

"Having the chance to play for a great side like Atlético de Madrid is also something I wanted to try."

Ujfalusi can play across the back four and believes that was one reason why he received so many offers when it became clear he was on the move.

"It is an advantage that I can play in the centre of defence as well as at full-back. I have always played in the middle, but in the last three years I have started to play on the sides," he continued.

Finally, the former Sigma Olomouc and Hamburg defender hopes to meet Fiorentina in the Champions League, but not in the qualifying stage next month.

"I know that there is a chance that we could play Fiorentina and ut would be great for me, but I would prefer to face them later on and not now," he added.
