DFL honours 2. Bundesliga champions

The DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH will honour the champions of the 2. Bundesliga with their own trophy from the 2008/09 season onwards.

For that reason the DFL has commissioned an according trophy for the 2. Bundesliga champions to be designed and produced.

"The 2. Bundesliga surely is the best second flight worldwide. As its own brand it signifies thrilling competition with clubs full of tradition as well as newcomers, great spectators' interest and outstanding atmosphere in the stadiums", DFL Chief Executive Officer Tom Bender declares.

"The champions' trophy is the most important symbol of sporting competition in the Bundesliga. We now want to acknowledge this special achievement with a separate trophy for the 2. Bundesliga champions, too."
