No Super Cup between FCB and BVB

The Board of the League Association has intensively dealt with the subject of re-introducing a Super Cup in 2007 within their meeting in Klagenfurt.

A corresponding request of Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München to be allowed to carry through an official DFL Super Cup 2008 on 23rd July 2008 and on their own initiative has been discussed at length. After long consultations the League Board came to the result not to stage an official Super Cup competition at short notice.

With this the committee followed its decision from November 2007, that had contained a one-off break for the League Cup without introducing a new competition. The main argument for the decision was the policy to make qualification criteria transparent to all possible participants before the introduction of a new competition. As planned, the DFL management will submit a presentation regarding the possible introduction of an additional competition from 2009 to the League Board and the DFL Supervisory Board ahead of the first matchday of the upcoming 2008/09 season.
