Hildebrand Blasts Löw For Lack Of Respect
Valencia goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand has hit out at German national team trainer Joachim Löw for showing him a lack of respect following his decision to omit him from the European Championship squad.
The former Stuttgart keeper was the one surprise omission from the 26 man preliminary squad announced last week by Bundestrainer Jogi Löw with Jens Lehmann, Rene Adler and Robert Enke the keepers selected.
Hildebrand has reacted angrily at the fact that Löw left it up to goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke to break the news to him, rather than doing it face to face.
“The national coach did not tell me personally. I take that as a lack of respect for me” he told the Bild am Sonntag.
“I was the Germany number two for many years, put myself in the service of the team - and was then booted out.
“I am angry and disappointed, irritated and empty at the same time. It is a nightmare, and it will last till I have worked through it all.”
Hildebrand also blasted the selection of Lehmann as Germany's number one even though he has not featured regularly for his club side Arsenal.
“I have played 40 matches. Other goalkeepers have scarcely played. As a professional you need game time - I have it, he does not. I am not at the Euros, he is in goal.”
