Their defence was definately worse than their attack. They didn't replace Gaby Milito. On paper it looks like they did with getting Ayala and Pavon in for free but neither player did them any good and the defence was a mess.
The biggest contributing factor was probably the discipline. Like Sid Lowe quoted "A dressing room is like a classroom,". "As soon as there's a lack of leadership, as soon as the teacher steps outside, the kids riot." Leaving the 3 new managers or supply teachers with an impossible task of controlling things. From the inside they started to rot and couldn't turn it around on the pitch. In the end the stars didn't care but it was also due to bad management from the board room downwards.
