Conti bitter as well...
Quote:
Conti: Catania was a war zone
Monday 19 May, 2008
Roma assistant Coach Bruno Conti is furious with the way his side were treated in Catania yesterday.
The Giallorossi’s title dream died as they were held by Catania, while Inter beat Parma.
No Roma fans were allowed to travel to the Stadio Massimino for fear of violent clashes, but Conti believes that the scenes in Sicily were still unacceptable.
“There was an indescribable atmosphere yesterday,” he lamented on Centro Suono Sport.
“I don’t want to cause controversy but the powers that be need to look at that.
“The window of our coach was broken and we were spat at and insulted. You can’t go from the hotel to the stadium without a huge escort of cars.
"How can you play a game of football when you think that you might not be able to leave the stadium?
“What is this, a war? We’re supposed to be talking about a sport. I’m worried about the future of calcio for the children who come to watch games. Something has to change.”
While members of the Lupi camp, including Daniele De Rossi, chose to hit out at the refereeing this season, Conti opted to finish his interview by praising Roma’s efforts.
“Everyone saw what happened during the year,” he stated. “But I don’t want to talk about refereeing controversy.
“I want to praise the lads and Luciano Spalletti who did a splendid job and also to thank the fans.”
