Everyone is mistake prone. Take Costinha for example, everyone says he was the smoothest. If I recall it was his backwards header to Owen that put us down 0-1 to England and during the 2006 WC he almost cost us the game against Holland after being sent off in the first half for receiving two yellows.
Another example, Ronaldo's tackle that gave Greece a penalty in the 1st game of the 2004 Euro. Had it not been for that the game could have finished 1-1 instead of 1-2 and with that tie Greece wouldnt have made it out of the group stage.
Bottom line is there is always what-ifs and everyone makes mistakes occasionally. But right now, Petit is needed on this squad. We cant have two inexperienced DM's playing in a major tournament. We need Petits grit. If Scolari would have taken Maniche then I think we wouldnt have needed Petit but one of them has to be there.
