Wessels Set For Bayern Return
With Bayern Munich in the hunt for a back-up keeper to Michael Rensing for next season, it seems as though Stefan Wessels is being lined up for a return to the club.

Quote:
Wessels is currently at Everton but is intent on leaving the Premiership club at the end of the season.

“Oliver Kahn is retiring at the end of the season, and Michael Rensing will succeed him, so we need to bring in a goalkeeper” admitted chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in an interview with Sport 1.

“The decision about personnel has not been made yet, but will take place very soon.”

One option that seems highly likely is that former reserve keeper Stefan Wessels will return to the Allianz Arena after spending a season in England with Everton.

The 29 year old has failed to settle or make the grade at Goodison Park having not fully convinced Toffees manager David Moyes. He has had to settle for a bit-part role as Tim Howard’s deputy.

Now having decided to call it a day at Goodison Park, Wessels looks set to return to where he began his career. The keeper started out at Bayern back in 1999 as understudy to Oliver Kahn, but only managed four Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarians. He then moved to Cologne.

The advantage that Wessels has is that he wouldn’t need time to settle in as he knows the club inside out already. Wessels however isn’t the only candidate with Bayern also reportedly interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Marc Ziegler.
