Bundesliga, Matchday 33 | PREVIEW
Werder Bremen – Hannover

Werder Bremen are guaranteed a top three finish this season, but they will still want to fend off the late challenge from Schalke for the runners up berth.

Thomas Schaaf’s side came out on top in the Nord-derby against rivals Hamburg on Wednesday, but it came at a cost with a number of suspensions incurred after a spate of yellow and red cards. The victory over HSV wasn’t pretty, but that won’t matter if Werder can beat Schalke to second place.

A top eight finish for Hannover is very much on the cards as they look to finish the season strongly. Unbeaten in their last five games, Dieter Heckings's side may prove a tough nut for Werder to crack this weekend.

Baumann Taking Nothing For Granted

Werder Bremen midfielder Frank Baumann has insisted that his side can take nothing for granted as they look to clinch the runners up spot in the Bundesliga.

Werder face Hannover at the Weser Stadion on Saturday knowing that a win is vital with Schalke lurking two points behind them in third.

That two-point lead was maintained on Wednesday with Thomas Schaaf’s side winning the Nord-derby against rivals Hamburg 1-0 at the HSH Nordbank Arena.

Captain Baumann however has said that things could quickly change and has urged his team mates to approach the game with the right focus.

"The Champions League race has not been decided" the 32 year old.

"It's simple maths: there are still six points to be won and we just have a two-point lead. We'll do all we can to defend it."

Baumann however will be missing as he has to serve a one-match ban this weekend.

Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic though is confident going into the match with Hannover this weekend.

"We have performed very well of late, he said.

"Schalke can only hope for a slip-up and at the same time they have to win their matches. That is not any easier."
