EPL: Everton V Derby
Before the game Moyes has challenged Manuel Fernandes to show his class
Quote:
David Moyes is urging Manuel Fernandes to show his best form in the last six games of the season.
Fernandes returned to Goodison in January, following a successful loan spell that began 12 months before.
But injuries have hampered his second spell on Merseyside, and the manager is hoping the Portuguese can show his best form in the last six games - and force him into considering a longer deal for the midfielder.
Asked if Fernandes had made as big an impact as he hoped, Moyes replied: "Not as much, maybe. He might get his opportunity in the coming weeks to see if he can do that.
"We are always looking (for quality players). He is here and we can look at him daily to see what he can do."
Despite Everton having a mini injury crisis in recent weeks, Moyes insists he isn't worried by the size of his squad.
"We had ten games in Europe and a few in the cup so we have probably played 14 or 15 more games than any other season, so that has to be taken into consideration," he explained.
"I wouldn't say we need more players, we need more quality. We chose to sell James McFadden then we picked up two serious injuries to James Vaughan and Tim Cahill and that takes its toll on you.
"I don't think I would have wanted more players in the squad. We always want to try and add the quality."
