According to the latest reports out of Germany, coveted VfB Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez is now also a target for Chelsea.
The news will prove deeply unsettling for a trio of Italian clubs, as neither Roma, AC Milan or Juventus are able to match the financial package that the London giants can easily put together for the 22-year-old, who was Player of the Year during Stuttgart's rise to the Bundesliga title last season, and has continued to win an array of admirers in the current campaign.
The powers that be at VfB Stuttgart have already admitted that they are resigned to losing their 'Mister Zuverlassig' (Mr Reliable), and are expected to release him to the highest bidder in the summer even though he still has four years remaining on his contract.
Gomez has a Spanish father and a German mother, but has opted to play his national football for the country of his birth, Germany. Barring an untimely injury, he is a lock to be named in the Germany squad for Euro 2008, for whom he has scored four goals in just eight internationals so far.
