Mario Gomez's agent has substantiated reports that AS Roma are closely tracking his star client.

Roma's number one transfer target currently is said to be Amauri, but they are also lining up Gomez in case they get priced out in their bid to sign the Palermo hitman. Being able to land the VfB Stuttgart star's signature is no foregone conclusion, however, as Milan and Juventus are known to be interested in him as well as Amauri..

“It’s true that the Giallorossi are chasing him,” said agent Maurizio Gaudino.

“Mario has a contract with Stuttgart until 2012, but we will make a decision after the European Championships and Italy does have a special charm.

“Of course he is flattered by their interest as Roma are a great club who are going far in the Champions League.

“Mario is also a big fan of Francesco Totti and to play alongside him would be a dream.

“It is an honour to know they are watching him, but he has a number of suitors. Whether a move happens or not depends a lot on whether Stuttgart qualify for next season’s UEFA Cup.”

Gomez, 22, was Player of the Year during Stuttgart's rise to the Bundesliga title last season, and has continued to win an array of admirers in the current campaign.
