In my opinion Carrick's passing - long and short - is better than Gerrard or Lampard. Gerrard and Lampard are different types of players - they are more goalscoring midfielders than anything else. Carrick has the quality to sit deep and open up defences in tight matches with his passing - whether it is 10 yards or 50 yards.

He still needs to improve other aspects of his game though, like scoring more goals. He played for Spurs for a couple of years and I think he only scored two for us - I know he has since scored a few for United but still not really enough for a midfielder with the talent that he has.

I have noticed his game is improving rapidly over the last few months and I definitely agree that the strongest central midfield two at Old Trafford are Carrick and Anderson.
