Messi Senior: I Don't Like The Maradona Comparisons
Lionel Messi’s father Jorge Messi admits that he does not like it when his son is compared to Argentina legend Diego Maradona.
The striker has often been compared to El Pibe D’or for his skill, technique and all round ability as well as the two famous goals he scored in La Liga which are identical to the ones Maradona scored in his England destruction job in World Cup 1986.
However despite being compared to perhaps the greatest player the world has ever seen, Messi senior would rather his son was not likened to Maradona.
“The truth is that I don’t like it when they compare my son with Diego,” Jorge Messi told Sport ES “It’s not possible to compare them because they played in two different eras of football.”
Messi’s father also insists that his son is not phased for enjoying so much success at such a young age.
“He is coping well, if we saw there was a problem then it would worry us but he is taking it well and he understands that we grow slowly but surely.”
Former Barcelona star Hristo Stoichkov was also full of praise for the young star after he picked up an award on Friday.
“No player who has arrived at this club in the past represents what Messi has right now,” added the Bulgarian.
