Daniele Cacia is still getting goosebumps after scoring his first Fiorentina goal at the Stadio Franchi.

“I had never netted in front of 20,000 people before,” said the former Piacenza and Under-21 international striker.

“I arrived two months ago and am trying to improve a little bit at a time. I waited for my chance in the UEFA Cup and hope soon I’ll get an opportunity in Serie A as well.”

Cacia’s splendid volley with the inside of his left foot helped the Viola defeat Rosenborg 2-1 on Thursday night, reaching the final 16 with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

“I think there are differences between Bobo Vieri, Giampaolo Pazzini and myself. I feel I am more of a centre-forward in the style of Vieri.”

He had spent most of the past year out with a serious knee injury, which is why his switch to Fiorentina was delayed until January.

“I dedicate the goal to my niece, whose birthday it was yesterday. It is an international goal, but the credit is down to the sacrifices made by my family and my girlfriend.”
