Guti rues ruthless Roma Wednesday 20 February, 2008

Real Madrid playmaker Guti feels that Roma were a little fortunate to triumph at the Stadio Olimpico last night.

Luciano Spalletti’s side bounced back from an early Raul goal to win 2-1 courtesy of David Pizarro and an Amantino Mancini masterpiece.

While the result leaves the tie evenly poised, Real enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and Guti believes the Merengues could have returned to Madrid with the tie under control.

“The result seemed a little unfair to me, but that’s how it goes against Italians,” the 31-year-old stated on the club’s official website.

“I’m happy with how we played, but certainly not with the final score, which could have been better. But they took their chances and this is the outcome.

“We started quite well and scoring the goal allowed us to settle, but they managed to hit back even though we controlled the game.”

Roma now have the tough task of defending the slimmest of leads at the Bernabeu on March 5.

“We will need to be calm to get through,” Guti said. “There are 90 minutes left and a 1-0 win will be enough.

“The support of our fans will be key and given the way we play I like our chances of progressing.”
