Rutten Favourite For Hamburg Job?
FC Twente boss Fred Rutten is the new favourite to land the job as manager of Hamburg
Hamburger SV coach Huub Stevens announced last year that he would quit the Hanseaten at the end of the season to return back to the Netherlands for family reasons.
The boss already has a job as head coach of PSV Eindhoven lined up upon his arrival, but it now appears as if HSV are eyeing another Dutchman as his replacement.
A report in Bild suggests that Hamburg's board have taken the decision to pursue interest in Fred Rutten, currently in the Eredivisie with FC Twente.
Dietmar Beiersdorfer, the Rothosen's sporting chief, has however refused to rule the move in or out. "The board haven't made a decision," he told the newspaper. "Our search for a manager isn't over yet. At the moment there's a lot of speculation."
Shortlisted Candidates
The one sure thing is that Rutten has made a shortlist, but the Dutchman is under contract to Twente until 2009. Bild are reporting that a fee of €500,000 would be required to release Rutten from his current deal and secure passage to the HSH Nordbank Arena.
Other candidates for the job are reported to be Mainz 05's Jürgen Klopp, who has also been linked with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, who will lose Giovanni Trapattoni in the summer. Christian Gross is also thought to have been approached by Hamburg. It is thought an announcement will be made next month.
