Vargas on Roman road Monday 11 February, 2008

Catania President Antonino Pulvirenti accepts that star man Juan Vargas will leave in the summer and hopes that the Peruvian chooses Roma.
Vargas has been one of the revelations of the season and has won the attention of some top scouts during his second season in Sicily.
The talented wing-back has been linked with Juventus, Roma and Manchester United over the last few months, but it seems that the capital club may have the advantage.
“Vargas is ready for a big club,” Pulvirenti insisted on Teleradiostereo. “A lot of prestigious clubs want him, but I would like him to stay in Italy.
“I would happily watch him play for a great side like Roma. We have an excellent relationship with the Giallorossi directors and he would have our full blessing.
“We made an effort to end the tension there has been between the two clubs in the past. Rome and Catania are two civilised cities and the stabbings that took place were isolated and unrepresentative and will not be repeated.”
Reports suggest that Catania will command a fee of at least £7m for Vargas – a man they paid just £1.2m for in August 2006.
