FC Basel trainer Christian Gross has confirmed that he has held talks with Hamburg over the upcoming vacancy as trainer.
The “purely informal” discussions took place between the Swiss trainer and the Bundesliga side as HSV step up the search for someone to replace Huub Stevens, who is leaving at the end of the season.
53 year old Gross confirmed however that he intended to see out his current contract with FC Basel, which runs to 2009.
Gross has previously attracted interest from both Schalke and Wolfsburg over a potential move to the Bundesliga. The ex-Bochum player spent a season in England as manager of Tottenham back in 1997-98 and has led Basel to three league titles.
Other potential candidates to succeed Stevens are Fred Rutten (Twente Enschede), Jürgen Klopp (Mainz) and Bruno Labbadia (Greuther Fürth).
Huub Stevens has already confirmed he is to take over at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in the summer.
