River Plate defeated San Lorenzo 1-0 with a second half penalty from Sebastian Abreu, and they clinched the preseason championship, that was played between Argentina's five "big clubs."

River Plate, who lost 2-0 against bitter rivals Boca Juniors, needed a victory to win the title, and they did exactly this, thanks to a nicely executed spot-kick from new Uruguayan signing Sebastian Abreu.

Diego Simeone's side dominated proceedings at the Estadio Jose Maria Minella, and were well worth their narrow, but hard-worked victory.

San Lorenzo created more danger than their rivals early on in the match, and could have gone ahead through a powerful Daniel Bilos header, that was saved by Juan Pablo Carrizo in the River goal.

River, on the other hand, didn't look dangerous, and pretty much only pumped long balls towards lanky 1.93 metre striker Abreu, who seemed to be off touch.

After the break the match livened up, and seven minutes into the half, River were awarded a penalty, after Alexis Sanchez was impeded in the area

Abreu stepped up to the spot, and fired the ball past Agustin Orion, in the San Lorenzo goal.

Less than 15 minutes later River were awarded another penalty, and this time regular taker Paulo Ferrari stepped up to the spot, but his penalty was saved.

River continued to press, and created a number of opportunities to put the result out of San Lorenzo's reach, but they failed to capitalize.

Simeone's side won the title, after having picked up seven points, from four matches.

congrats...
