Quote:
Borussia Dortmund 2 Werder Bremen 1
Thomas Doll's Borussia Dortmund beat title challengers Werder Bremen at the Signal-Iduna Park in front of 68,000 fans. BVB went 2-0 up before substitute Diego scored one penalty and missed another to hand victory to Dortmund.
Geovani Federico gave the home side the lead after 19 minutes after Mladen Petric played the ball into the path of the forward. Werder didn't make the most of their chances in the first half as the hosts went in ahead.
The second half looked finely balanced until ten minutes from time when Diego Klimowicz rounded Tim Wiese after a through pass from Kehl and slotted cooly home. Two minutes later an a foul on Rosenberg led to a penalty, which Diego dispatched to give Werder hope.
That hope was raised two minutes later when the referee awarded a second spot kick to Werder, but on this occasion Ziegler came out on top as he guessed correctly and pushed the ball away.
In the end, the home side deserved their win and their place in the quarter final.
