It’s official – Marco Giampaolo has been recalled to the Cagliari bench after Nedo Sonetti quit the outfit on Wednesday.

The Swiss-born tactician has been reinstalled as Coach just five games after he was axed by demanding Rossoblu chief Massimo Cellino.

“Nedo Sonetti has resigned as Coach of Cagliari Calcio,” read a brief statement posted on their official website.

“The club have recalled Marco Giampaolo. While we await his arrival, this morning’s training session will be taken by the technical staff.”

Giampaolo, who made his name at Ascoli two years ago, is no stranger to such a Sardinian shuffle given that he was also sacked mid-campaign last term before being brought back.

Sonetti arrived for his third spell at the club five games ago, but had only managed to collect one point during that time.

That run or poor results has seen the one-time Scudetto winners fall to the bottom of the standings.

Cagliari lost 2-0 at home to leaders Inter on Sunday night and will close 2007 with a daunting away trip to Fiorentina.
