Di Carlo’s vote of confidence Friday 30 November, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi has pledged his support for under-fire Coach Domenico Di Carlo.

Former Mantova boss Di Carlo is finding life in Serie A tough in his maiden top-flight season.

With the axe falling upon underachieving bosses around the peninsula, there had been rumours that the 43-year-old would be next, but Ghirardi refutes such talk.

“I don’t know why everyone wants to put words in my mouth to suggest that I don’t have faith in Di Carlo and that his job is under threat,” Ghirardi declared.

“It’s all journalistic fabrication. It’s true that I’m very demanding as I always ask for the best and I can be quite critical, but I can confirm that Di Carlo is safe on our bench.

“The side have already shown that they have turned a corner, as before the defeat against Roma we were on a four-game unbeaten run and we had put in a great performance against Juve

“I read that without the last five minutes of games, we would be sixth in Serie A and that shows that this side can do great things.”

While Di Carlo seems likely to keep his post for the New Year, he is unlikely to have any money to spend.

“Will we bring in reinforcements? I don’t think that we have personnel problems, so in January we will only replace players that want to leave,” Ghirardi revealed.

“Nobody else will be moving, especially as we are still awaiting the return of Igor Budan. He will be our big winter signing.”
