I expected a very entertaining game, but it was pretty dull until the last 15mins. Victor Fernandez really messed up the teams formation by deciding to leave aimar/d’allesandro on the bench and instead play with Sergio Garcia on the right wing and oscar on the left. Sergio Garcia was the only spark zaragoza had in the first half even if he was being deployed in a unfamiliar position to him.
Zaragoza had a makeshift backline with the young Valero at left back and ex getafe man parades playing as a cb. Ayala really was important today and kept uche/manu at bay for most of the game. But then juanfran made a stupid mistake. Fernandez was about to put on aimar/d’allesandro so that they could win the game and then juanfran decides to control the ball in the box and sousa was able to snatch his loose control and put away a easy chance.
Aimar was ineffectual when he came on, but d’allesandro added a lot of urgency and creativity to the side. Though despite all his efforts it looked like zaragoza weren’t going to get anything out of the game. But then d’allesandro scored from those gay free kicks. Where the ref allows them to take a free kick even though the goalkeeper is clearly not ready ala henry against Chelsea, Giggs against Lille last season etc. Pato was trying to organize the wall and whilst he was doing that d’allesandro asked the ref if he could take the free kick and he then scored a pretty easy goal.
Hands out to the getafe centre backs who were great today, especially Abrante and to think he only ever played 2 games for Barcelona
