PORTUGAL'S HISTORY IN EURO CUP TOURNAMENTS

EURO 1984 FRANCE - "The Game of the Century"



Portugal's first euro appearance. Qualified out of a group containing Romania, Spain and West Germany. two draws vs Germany and Spain, and a 1-0 win over Romania took Portugal alongside Spain to the semi finals.

In the semi finals, Portugal lost 3-2 after extra time to the host nation and Platinti-inpired France side. This game has been described by many as the one of the best international football matches ever, and possibly the best match in EURO tournament history. Portugal were the big underdogs against a talented French team that upuntil the semi finals, had easily brushed passed every single opponent. At the end of the Semi france was left gasping for air in tears of Joy, whereas the underdog Portuguese side bowed out of the tournament

EURO 1996 ENGLAND - "Debut of the Golden Generation"



Portugal's "Golden Generation" appeared in their first major tournament in England in Euro 1996. a young squad containing players like Luis Figo, Joao Pinto, Paulo Sousa, Rui Costa, Vitor Baia and Fernando Couto.

Portugal topped D beating Croatia 3-0, Turkey 1-0 and drawing Denmark 1-1. In the quarter-final a lobbed goal from Karel Poborksy took the czechs 1-0 past Portugal.
