Zola tips Capello for England Thursday 22 November, 2007
Former Parma hero Gianfranco Zola has backed Fabio Capello for the England national job.
The search for Steve McClaren’s successor has begun and ex-Juventus boss Capello has entered the frame.
The 61-year-old joked during last night’s Italy-Faroe Islands game on Rai that he would be a good candidate and Zola seems to agree.
“I think this kind of job needs really great ability,” the Sardinian legend stated.
“It will need one of the best and think that Capello falls into that category.
“It’s really sad to see my friends in the England side out of the European Championships.
“I haven’t seen them play often this year so I don’t have a technical opinion.
"This is a very delicate time in international football when important choices are made for the future.”
Jose Mourinho remains the favourite to take the post with the bookmakers listing him at 7/2.
