Francesco Totti’s ankle injury is not as serious as feared after scans ruled out damage to the ligaments.
The Roma captain is now facing a race against time to try and recover in time for the weekend’s epic battle against Milan.
When Totti limped off in last night’s Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon, it was suspected that he could be sidelined for months rather than weeks.
However, the prognosis looks more positive after today’s examinations and the 31-year-old was even able to participate in light training with the rest of the squad.
Rodrigo Taddei and Mauro Esposito have also started work with the football after spells on the sidelines.
Injured goalkeeper Alexander Doni played in the five-a-side games that concluded the session.
