Cesare Prandelli praised his Fiorentina side for standing up to leaders Roma and joining the giants of the sport.

“It was a fantastic game,” he beamed at the end of an epic 2-2 draw. “I think my lads were up to the task, especially as we were always trailing and fought back very well.


“Every three days this season we face a new test, but this was an important match. We wanted to square off against a ‘great’ and for 90 minutes stayed in it. If you can do that against a team like this, then you’re on the right track.”


The Viola are potential outsiders for the Scudetto and are also competing in the UEFA Cup this term, but after five rounds are only two points adrift of joint leaders Roma and Inter.


“I am happy with our performance. I think if we work hard, we can remain in a high position in the table.”


Christian Vieri came on as a substitute and earned Adrian Mutu’s decisive penalty for the equaliser.
