Arsene Wenger will ring the changes for Arsenal's Carling Cup tie with Newcastle United, who are without Michael Owen.

Last season's runners-up entertain Newcastle in the third round on Tuesday night, with Wenger promising to pick a good team.

However, several of his star names, such as Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie, are not expected to start.

Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner is likely to start his first game for The Gunners and could be partnered in attack by Eduardo da Silva.

Recent signing Lassana Diarra is due to make his first start for the club, while Denilson should start for the first time this season.

Justin Hoyte, Armand Traore and Alexandre Song could also come into the team, while Lukasz Fabianski could make his Arsenal debut in goal.

Emmanuel Eboue may also return after an ankle injury, but Tomas Rosicky, Jens Lehmann, Alexander Hleb and William Gallas are injured.

Newcastle face Arsenal just over 48 hours after the 3-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League, in which Mark Viduka took a kick to the foot.

The Australian should be fit to line up against The Gunners, but his strike partner Owen will be missing.

Owen limped off against The Hammers with a recurrence of his groin complaint and could require a hernia operation.

Experienced defender Claudio Cacapa is in the same position as Owen and will also sit out the match at Emirates Stadium.

Emre Belozoglu could make just his second appearance of the season for Newcastle, while Abdoulaye Faye may start his first game for the club.

But Sam Allardyce is still without long-term injury victims Celestine Babayaro, Joey Barton, Stephen Carr, Damien Duff and Peter Ramage.
