Spurs dismiss latest Jol talk
Quote:
Tottenham have again dismissed media reports that manager Martin Jol is on his way out of White Hart Lane, insisting that there are no plans to replace the Dutchman.
Spurs slumped to their fourth defeat of the new season in the north London derby on Saturday to further feed the frenetic speculation Jol will soon be sacked and replaced by Sevilla boss Juande Ramos.
The 3-1 home defeat to Arsenal left Spurs fourth bottom in the Premier League with just four points from six games.
And Monday evening newspaper reports claimed Ramos - who had said he received a 'dizzying' offer from Spurs last month, only to eventually stay with the UEFA Cup champions - will meet again with representatives from White Hart Lane in the next fortnight.
But, publicly at least, Spurs continue to back Jol, even though they were expecting a better start to the season.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Martin's our manager and there are no plans to meet anyone else.
"It is inaccurate to speculate game-by-game. Martin has not had the start he would have wished but he wants to turn things around."
Despite the increased speculation, Jol's job appears safe until the end of the season, with Ramos now insisting he has no intention of leaving Sevilla until next summer.
Spurs' hand could still of course be forced should the club's poor run of form persist but with a dearth of top coaches willing to move to White Hart Lane, Jol could yet have time to turn around his side's, and his own, fortunes.
