Rochester, MI--The University of Detroit Mercy's men's soccer team played in its second-straight double overtime game against Oakland and it ended in a 0-0 tie Wednesday afternoon at the OU Soccer Field in Rochester, MI.
OU junior midfielder Piotr Nowak took a penalty kick in the 14th minute from about 15 yards out, but UD sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Kloss tallied one of his six saves of the afternoon to keep the score at 0-0.
In the 66th minute redshirt freshman Jacob Munchiando shot a laser to the lower right hand corner, but an outstretched OU goalkeeper, Steve Clark, deflected the shot. About two minutes later, UDM sophomore Ken Simon took a shot from the top of the box, but it went right of the net.
The Grizzlies had a 10-7 advantage on shots in the 110 minutes, but the Titans amassed seven corner kicks to OU's three.
The last time the Titans played in an overtime game was on Oct. 28, 2006 when UDM lost by a score of 2-1 to UW-Green Bay in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament in Wisconsin. Last season, UDM and OU's match-up went into two extra sessions, which is the Titans last double overtime contest. That game ended in a 2-2 tie with the game played in Detroit on Oct. 22.
The Titans will return to action when they face IPFW in Fort Wayne, IN, on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
