Bayern relief after shootout
Regional League South side Wacker Burghausen made record winners FC Bayern München go all the way in their DFB Cup 1st round match.
Bayern needed the lottery of a penalty shootout to win 5-4 at Wacker, after the match had been tied at 1-1 with 120 minutes gone.
FCB narrowly avoided their first 1st round exit after 13 years. Back then they had lost 1-0 against TSV Vestenbergsgreuth.
Klose equaliser
Thomas Neubert had scored with a header to put the underdogs 1-0 up just past the hour mark in front of 11,582 in the sold-out Wacker-Sportpark.
Miroslav Klose's equaliser eleven minutes from time brought extra-time, but 30 minutes added on failed to decide the winner.
Two Kahn saves
During the penalty shootout Burghausen even had a "match-point", but Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn kept out Palionis' shot.
Christian Lell's goal and another Kahn save against Mayer sent Bayern through to the second round.
