1899 Hoffenheim advance to second round
1899 Hoffenheim have reached the second round of the German Cup. In a clash of two teams from the 2nd Bundesliga, Hoffenheim won against FC Augsburg 4:2 (2:2, 1:1) after extra-time.
Since 1995, Hoffenheim has climbed from the Landesliga – the 6th level of German football – to the 2nd Bundesliga. Now the team of Ralf Rangnick, a former coach of Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart, wants to create even more headlines by advancing to the next round in the DFB Pokal.
Twelve games are scheduled for Saturday, eighteen more games for Sunday. Wacker Burghausen versus FC Bayern München on Monday concludes the first round. The game between the Regionalliga-club and Bayern will be shown live on ARD (8.30 P.M.).
The German champions VfB Stuttgart travel to SV Wehen-Wiesbaden for their game on Saturday (6.30 P.M.). Football tradition lives on when such teams as 1. FC Magdeburg and Borussia Dortmund or Eintracht Braunschweig and Werder Bremen will meet. Reigning Cup champions Nürnberg play against SC Victoria Hamburg, a team from the 5th division (Verbandsliga), on Sunday. The lowest ranked team remaining in the competition are the SV Seligenporten, which compete in the Bavarian Landesliga and will host Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld Sunday afternoon.
The second round of the DFB Pokal is scheduled for October 30/31 2007. The final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion will be played on April 19, 2008. Because of the EURO 2008, the game was set for such an early date.
