Baiano And Curro Torres Swell Murcia Numbers

Quote:
Real Murcia have broken their transfer record after agreeing a €5m to sign Fernando Baiano from Celta Vigo and snapped up Curro Torres on loan from Valencia.

Coach Lucas Alcaraz has been after a new striker all summer and targetted the Brazilian and were locked in a race for his signature with Levante.

Baiano agreed to a three-year deal as he is keen to remain in the first division after being unable to help prevent Celta from going down last term.

The operation to capture makes the 28-year-old the most expensive signing int he club's history and critics have already questioned the outlay.

During his three seasons in the Spanish league, one with Málaga and two with Celta, Baiano has only scored 12 goals-per-year on average.

Curro Torres has also agreed to move to Nueva Condomina on a 12-month loan after being told that he was not part of Quique Sánchez Flores' plans at Valencia.

Murcia have made changes to the squad that won promotion last season with no less than 14 players having already left the club.

The two latest arrivals take the tally of new faces up to 13 as the club have brought in the likes of Pablo García and Álvaro Mejía from Real Madrid, Mario Regueiro from Valencia, Enrique De Lucas from Alavés, Arzo from Villarreal and Fabián Carini from Inter.

I really rate Baiano and I think that he could of gone to a bigger La Liga club.

But Real Murcia have approached promotion in an interesting way. Often a club signs lots of players but they're not star names. Murcia have recruited many decent sized names for the stature of the club like Fernando Baiano, Curro Torres, Pablo García, Álvaro Mejía, Mario Regueiro, Cesar Arzo and Fabián Carini. Will be interesting to see if they're stable or if they bomb back down to Segunda.
