The only reason - and I wasn't there to hear it - that Mano would have bitch slapped the Chilean would have been for a racial slur. Why else? I am not seeing the game with red and green and yellow eyes. I'm the same guy who thought Pele deserved an automatic red when he tackled the New Zealander in the first game.
Zequinha deserved the Red, no questions asked.
But the ref lost control of the game 10 minutes into the second half when he wasn't calling the Chileans for leaving their foot behind when he made those calls against the Portuguese in the first half (and they were valid calls).
The selectio of captain makes a difference - and with Gama gone - someone should have stepped up and that would have been our captain. When I played and when I was captain - I had the last word - not my players. I was the only one allowed to talk to the ref. It was either that way or you didn't play.
But it was nice to see the video-clip at the end of the game with the captain talking to the ref - hands behind his back - and civilized.

I agree, but it's sad to see Portuguese soccer drag back too 2000 and 2002 when our players brought shame to our football...The referee had his agenda, but we need to take the higher road and not act in this fashion...
