So let's see in the ideal Chelski version ... Chelski keep Mikel and United would have to give the 12m back to Chelski. Since Chelski paid Lyn 4m for Mikel, they would have signed him for 4m effectively.
On the flip side, United are out 4m that they paid to Lyn originally. For the sake of argument we'll call the 12m a zero-sum amount, although I'm willing to bet that the 12m helped fund this summer deals.
So what do United do? They wind up filing suit against Lyn as a club and Andersen personally - probably to the tune of 12-15m overall.
