Foxes swoop for free frontman Cort
Leicester have signed former £7million striker Carl Cort on a free transfer following his release by Championship rivals Wolves.
The former Newcastle man joins the Foxes on a two-year contract and becomes Martin Allen's fourth signing of the week - following the captures of Bruno N'Gotty, Jimmy Nielsen and Ricky Sappleton.
And Allen revealed he had beaten off competition from a number of clubs to sign 29-year-old Cort.
He said: "Carl has quality and I am delighted he has chosen us over four other clubs, including one from the Premiership.
"I believe I am going to get the best out of him. I am going to work him hard and push him to maximise his ability. Then the ball is in his court."
Chairman Milan Mandaric added: "I am delighted that we have attracted a player of Carl's calibre to the club.
"He met the sole criteria of what this club is all about."
Cort was released by Wolves at the end of last season after scoring 31 goals in 94 appearances during a spell marred by injury at Molineux.
